Shonn Greene’s emergence made Thomas Jones expendable for the Jets, but that doesn’t mean the second-year back won’t miss his mentor.

Greene told NJ.com that he was sad to see the Jets cut Jones.

“He’s been almost like a father to me, teaching me everything about (playing at this level),” said Greene, who was promoting the NFL’s “Fuel Up to Play 60.”

“Everything I know now, I got from him -- how to go about the business in this game, how to carry yourself, how to watch film. We had a good bond.”

REPORT: JETS' FEELY TO VISIT CARDINALS

Greene is expected to take over the starter’s role, but will now share the backfield with another veteran, LaDainian Tomlinson. The Jets signed Tomlinson for a similar amount of money that Jones got from the Chiefs.

“I can learn a little bit from LaDainian, because he’s a pretty shifty guy,” Greene said. “He doesn’t get hit as much as other running backs. Maybe I can learn something there. But I’m a football player and I like contact. That’s why I play this game. So it’s going to be kind of hard to avoid it.”

Greene laughed off the fact that he mimicked Tomlinson’s celebration in the Jets’ AFC Championship victory over the Chargers when he put the Jets ahead 17-7 on a 53-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

"I won't be doing it anymore," Greene said. "That's his move."
