Jason Segel looks noticeably slimmer in his new movie "The Five-Year Engagement," but the "How I Met Your Mother" actor reveals that he didn't drop the poundage of his own volition and was "forced" to do it.
"I was forced to lose weight for this movie," he explained while appearing on "Late Night with David Letterman" yesterday. "I was told that it had to be conceivable that Emily Blunt would ever choose me to be her husband. Which is fair."
When Letterman asked who had done the forcing, Segel elaborated, "the studio president," pointing a finger at Ron Meyer, the president of Universal Pictures. Segel says that he shed "a good 35 pounds" in the end, despite finding a sneaky way to cheat on his diet.
"I didn't enjoy it, but they sent a trainer to set and I had to work out twice a day and then he would watch me eat all day," said Segel. "What they didn't anticipate is that I'm very clever, Dave, and I play a chef in the movie. So there are a lot of scenes where I have to eat. I would pay my co-stars nominal amounts of money to mess up their lines during the scenes so I would get to keep eating."
While Segel may not have enjoyed getting fit, presumably new girlfriend Michelle Williams is not too disappointed by his efforts.Follow @PageSix
