“Today” co-anchor Ann Curry choked back tears this morning while saying an emotional farewell to the coveted job she’d held for just a year.
Curry, who took over for Meredith Vieira as “Today” co-host 54 weeks ago, thanked co-workers and viewers during her final moments on NBC’s morning couch.
“This is not easy to say, but today is going to be my last morning as a regular co-host of 'Today,’ “ said Curry, who first joined the show in 1997 as a news reader before eventually moving to the couch.
"I will still be a part of the 'Today’ show family, but I'm going to have a new title and a new role."
She continued: “This is not as I expected to ever leave this couch after 15 years, but I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch.”

NBC made Curry its scapegoat for the network’s slipping status as one-time morning juggernaut.
