UFC champ Jones avoids jail time in DWI sentence

Jon Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion, was fined $1,000 and will have to install ignition interlocks on all of his vehicles following his misdemeanor DWI sentencing Tuesday in Binghamton, judge Daniel L. Seiden determined. The story was first reported by pressconnects.com.

Jones, who is from upstate Ithaca, must complete a victim impact panel within 90 days and also received a six-month license suspension. The MMA star, regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, entered a guilty plea May 29 after crashing his Bentley into a utility pole May 19 in Binghamton.

The 205-pound champ will defend his title against legend Dan Henderson on Sept. 1 at UFC 151 in Las Vegas.

Jones’ only true statement about the DWI arrest came on his Facebook back in May.

"It has literally been sickening to have so many people try to kick me while I'm down,” Jones wrote. “At the same time, I totally understand, I gave them the leeway to. I screwed up, big time. Just needed to say thank you to all you guys for being amazing friends/supporters.”
