Chandler was named Wednesday to the Second Team with the Magic's Dwight Howard and the Thunder's shot-blocking extraordinaire Serge Ibaka being placed ahead of Chandler and on to the First Team. NBA coaches vote for the All-Defensive teams, while the media selects the DPOY. Chandler, who is expected to make the United States' Olympic team, will be a heavy favorite to land on one of the three All-NBA teams at center when they are announced.
Even Knicks teammate Jeremy Lin was confused by Chandler's first-team snub. Lin tweeted Wednesday, "im no genius or anything but someone explain how @tysonchandler is defensive player of the year but not make the nba all-defensive 1st team.''
LeBron James, whose Heat team eliminated the Knicks in the playoffs, was the top vote-getter and was joined by Howard, Ibaka, Clippers' Chris Paul and Grizzlies' Tony Allen on the First Team. Joining Chandler on the Second Team was the Celtics' Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo, Bulls' Luol Deng and Lakers' Kobe Bryant.
