“That sounds about right,” Nicks said.
There are only two days remaining in July, so by the mid-August timetable, Nicks figures to be sidelined for at least two more weeks, maybe as many as three. The star wide receiver broke his right foot during OTAs in May but has vowed to be able to play in the regular season opener on Sept. 5.
One of the Giants’ most invaluable players as he enters his fourth season, Nicks has worn his No. 88 jersey at practice and has begun his rehab. He’s running with no problems and expects to start cutting shortly. He admits it’s hard not to do more.
“It definitely gets tempting. There’s no question about it,” he said. “But I’m just sticking to the script, like they said. I definitely want to be out there, but gotta do the right thing, be smart about it, don’t want to prolong this injury.”
Nicks added, “Everything’s going the way we planned. . . . I’m ready to get back at it. I feel like I need to be out there with the guys.”
