What to make of last night's Yankees game?

AL: Texas (1) vs. winner of Detroit (WC1a), Oakland (WC1b) or Baltimore (WC1c), Yankees (2) vs. White Sox (3)
NL: Washington (1) vs. winner of Atlanta (WC1) and Pittsburgh (WC2), Cincinnati (2) vs. San Francisco (3)
Notes: Yup, a three-way tie for the two AL wild-card slots. So here’s how this would break down:
The Tigers, with the best head-to-head record among these three teams (they’re 4-3 against the A’s and Orioles), would choose their course of action: They could sit out the first game and play one home game or play a first game at home and second game on the road.
Let’s say they opt for the first choice. Therefore, Baltimore would play at Oakland. The A’s would host because they’re 5-5 against Baltimore and Detroit, superior to the Orioles’ 4-5 against Detroit and Oakland.
The winner of this game would get a wild-card berth. The loser would go to Detroit, and the winner of that game would get the other wild-card slot.
Meanwhile, the Tigers and A’s have three games remaining in Detroit, the Tigers and Orioles have three games remaining in Detroit and the A’s and Orioles have three games remaining in Oakland.
Gotta run today – we’ve got rain in Detroit – but here’s my column last night’s Yankees game. The tone of my column changed with the game’s many turns. It went, essentially, from “See, the Yankees are fine!” to “Good Lord, the Yankees are in trouble!” to “Um, they won, and who knows?”
So I’ll open up the floor. What did you take out of last night’s Yankees-Tigers game? Are you encouraged by their offense and resilience? Or are you worried that they couldn’t enjoy a laugher on a day when they gave their ace CC Sabathia a 7-0 lead?
--Have a great day.
